What can I say? I love The Hobbit. I remember finding my first copy in a drawer in my brother's old bedroom. That copy was published by Ballantine, probably in the late eighties, and its cover art included a hideous representation of Gollum and a pleasantly plump Bilbo with Sting (his Elvish dagger) in hand.
To top it off, the cover itself was almost completely torn off. Perhaps because of this rather dismal introduction, I didn't actually read The Hobbit until I was probably 13 or 14 (right around the time that Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy came out).
From the first time I read it, so well as I can recall, I was hooked! It captured my imagination in a liberating and exciting way. As cliché as it sounds, I couldn't put it down and have loved it ever since.
I am, of course, an avid fan of "The Lord of the Rings" as well and would never deny it; nevertheless, I wanted to create a site that was primarily focused on "The Hobbit" itself. I hope that not only will this be a place where long-time fans can gather and discuss the story, but where newbies (halflings, if you will) can receive an introduction to the wonderful world of Middle-earth.
